WOMEN

As the rates of homelessness have increased, the number of women experiencing homelessness has been disproportionately impacted. Age, race, income, education, abuse and violence, and sexual orientation are all contributing factors to this increasing trend. The challenges faced by this underserved population, particularly by marginalized women and women of color, are unique and require specific attention. The needs of women experiencing homelessness are oftentimes overlooked and unaddressed, causing women who experience homelessness to survive by being invisible. Access to multi-faceted resources and supportive services that meet the gender-specific needs of women are vital to truly breaking the cycle of abuse, violence, and homelessness.
