HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The intersection of homelessness and human trafficking is one that has been disregarded for far too long. More often than not, women and youth experiencing homelessness are met with short-term solutions propelling them to seek other forms of survival. In search of basic necessities such as clothing, food, and shelter, women and youth experiencing homelessness will engage in survival sex and are often times coerced into sex-trafficking. Contrary to popular belief, survival sex and sex-trafficking are not the same and/or interchangeable; the differentiation between the two is of the utmost importance. This section will provide the necessary insight to understand and destigmatize survival sex and explore the network of human traffickers terrorizing homeless women.
