THE NEED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING

For decades, policy response to the lack of affordable housing has placed the blame on individuals, blatantly ignoring the systemic inequities that have further oppressed and disproportionately disadvantaged already marginalized communities. The nation’s failure to adequately respond to the lack of affordable housing has contributed to a nationwide epidemic of homlessness. Policies that ensure the development and preservation of affordable housing, increased funding for housing programs, rent regulation, eviction protections and rental subsidies promote access to affordable housing for all and encourage long-term solutions.
